Let’s go west...
Today on the blog, we are talking about New Mexico and all of the wonderful things to experience while you are there. The culture, the food, the great outdoors, and much more.
New Mexico has one of the most widely diverse landscapes in the world. The mountains to the north peak at 13,000 feet, prime for skiing and snowboarding. The jungle-like forests with towering cottonwoods, dry desert, and vast expanses of prairie are home to all kinds of wild animals, including big game such as elk. The many rivers are perfect for year round fly fishing and water recreation. New Mexico is truly an amazing place and we have come to enjoy the sunny days, unspoiled land and vibrant cities.
The southwest is well known for its eclectic food and culture. From traditional cooking and regional spice blends to fusion restaurants and farmers markets, there is plenty to taste and experience. Trust us. We tasted it all. Land hunting makes you hungry. Also, did you know that there are over 50 wineries in New Mexico with the first vineyard being planted by Spanish monks dating as early as 1629?! Neither did we!
New Mexico is full of natural beauty, kind people and fun places to explore. So grab your bags and go west.
things to do + places to visit in New Mexico:
White Sands National Monument - Located in the heart of the Tularosa Basin, these glistening white sands of New Mexico are one of the world's great natural wonders
High Noon Restaurant & Saloon - Imagine combining dining with local history. That’s exactly the feel of this fun restaurant. High Noon specializes in steak and wild game with fresh New Mexican and Southwestern flavors and rumor has it... has a resident ghost
Museum of International Folk Art - Founded by Florence Dibell Bartlett in 1953, this museum is a world of its own. Her vision for creating this magical place can be summed up by her statement “The art of the craftsman is a bond between the peoples of the world.
Carlsbad Caverns - Beauty both above and below. This is such a fun trip, with over 100 caves to explore and all kinds of plants, animals and natural history to learn about it’s hard not to have a great time and leave feeling a bit more curious about the world.
Musical Highway - We already love the sound of wheels on road, but this takes things to a whole new level. On Route 66 there is a special stretch of highway that will play you a song. Hold a steady 45mph and stray over to the side of the road. Align your wheels with the stretch of rumble strip (or as I like to call them, “Wake up stupid bumps.”) and you will hear it play "America the Beautiful.
